Hey all - I have already posted this to TexOdes. Apologies to those
who receive it 2-3 times. Please forward to interested parties,
including the other odonata listservs to which I am not subscribed
but some of you probably are (CalOdes, Great Lakes, NE Odes, etc.).
Thanks!

Though Dragonfly Days 2007 was cancelled, a group from the Cleveland
Museum of Natural History went ahead with their plans to visit the
LRGV this weekend. In lieu of DDVIII, I am helping them have a good
time. This afternoon I showed them around Bentsen-RGV State Park, and
NABA naturalist Javier de Leon showed us around the NABA
International Butterfly Park. In spite of overcast breezy weather, we
observed one each Coral-fronted Threadtail (Neoneura aaroni),
Checkered Setwing (Dythemis fugax), and Pin-tailed Pondhawk
(Erythemis plebeja); and several each of Spot-tailed Dasher
(Micrathyria aequalis), Caribbean Yellowface (Neoerythromma
cultellatum), and Neotropical Bluet (Enallagma novahispaniae). Saw
three different gomphid species and scored a hat trick of Setwings.
Totals for the afternoon were 10 species of damsel and 17 dragons.
Far and away my best odonate day of the year so far; I guess it
really is a good time for a dragonfly festival!

See y'all next year?
