Greetings,

The latest issue of The Boghaunter features Paul-Michael Brunelle's
expose on finding and netting northeastern Somatochlora (Striped
Emeralds) and Neurocordulia (Shadowdragons). Even if you don't live
up here, Paul's 7,600-word article is a tutorial on field technique
and determination. It inaugurates a series in The Boghaunter on field
experience with noteworthy odonate taxa. Paul covers everything from
finding the habitat for each species to sage advice on how to land
them in the net. And he includes other wisdom, such as this on
securing S. albicincta: "Experience indicates that pitching rocks at
them when you've missed a swing is an ineffective technique."

I intend to continue the series in future issues with articles from
leading odonatologists on other choice genera. Download the issue at
www.wingsenvironmental.com/boghaunter, where you'll also find an
archive of back issues.

Finally, I announce, regrettably, the end to print editions of The
Boghaunter. Time, expense and technology have conspired to force this
change. The advantage is that the PDF versions are in vivid color. In
this issue, for example, Paul's habitat photographs are far better
than anything in black and white. I hope you'll agree.

Best regards,
Bryan Pfeiffer
