Subject: [Odonata-l] spring challenge

This is for North American odonate aficionados.

I am writing photo field guides for western and eastern North America,
and I've been trying to get photos of both sexes of all the western
species for two years now. There is still a surprisingly large list for
which I have found no photos of FEMALES, and I wonder if perhaps no one
has such photos.

Aeshna walkeri Walker's Darner
Anax concolor Blue-spotted Comet Darner
Remartinia luteipennis Malachite Darner
Arigomphus lentulus Stillwater Clubtail*
Erpetogomphus heterodon Dashed Ringtail
Erpetogomphus l. lampropeltis Serpent Ringtail
Gomphus gonzalezi Tamaulipan Clubtail
Gomphus modestus Gulf Coast Clubtail*
Stylogomphus sigmastylus Interior Least Clubtail*
Somatochlora ensigera Plains Emerald*
Somatochlora forcipata Forcipate Emerald*
Somatochlora georgiana* Coppery Emerald*
Somatochlora hudsonica Hudsonian Emerald*
Somatochlora margarita Texas Emerald*
Somatochlora sahlbergi Treeline Emerald
Somatochlora septentrionalis Muskeg Emerald*
Brechmorhoga pertinax Masked Clubskimmer
Erythemis mithroides Claret Pondhawk
Macrothemis inequiunguis Jade-striped Sylph
Tauriphila azteca Aztec Glider

So I'll put this list out as a challenge for all you photographers.
Needless to say, if anyone gets a good photo of any of these females, I
would very much like to have the opportunity to use it in my western
book, which I will be submitting to the publisher some time this summer.
As I will be starting on the eastern book immediately, I can use all
those species with asterisks in that book.

Good luck!
