[Odonata-l] Odd coloured eyes on Sympetrum striolatum

Whilst out walking yesterday I observed a male Sympetrum striolatum 
with eyes of differing colours. One was the normal reddish brown and 
the other was black. The insect was behaving in a normal manner and 
did not appear to be inconvenienced in any way by this.

Having never previously observed such a phenomenon I would be 
interested to know whether this is something that occurs occasionally or
whether it is some strange 'one-off'? All comments gratefully received.
